Language Arts

In 5th grade we have novels that are read throughout the year.  We have decided to use the novels as in-class reads, in which we read the book together and focus on different text and word structure skills as we read.  Most reading activities will be done in class along with help for the papers that will be completed with each novel.  Below is a description of what Language Arts includes….

Spelling: 

We are focusing on Greek & Latin Roots (prefixes, suffixes, roots). Students will have 10 words each week and the test will be broken into 2 days. Wednesday's, they are tested on spelling. Thursday's they are tested on definitions and using the words in a sentence. Friday's they will get the new lists.  
 

Students can earn 4s in spelling by creatively writing a story that includes ALL spelling words.
